Emma Pinner

Occupational Therapist

Therapies I Provide:

I’m an experienced OT having worked privately in many schools across the county and, more recently, in the under 18s mental health crisis team in the NHS. I’m passionate about bringing the skills I’ve developed over the years into my private practice, to enable me to help more young people and families who are feeling stuck.

Occupational Therapy can be a bit mysterious to someone who hasn’t worked with an OT (Occupational Therapist) before but the approach is simple in whatever the setting and whatever the situation.

It starts with getting to know you and your needs and helping you to set goals for what you want to be different. Then, identifying the changes that need to be made and the barriers to overcome them, and supporting you with a plan and regular input to achieve those goals.

As an OT one of the things that i am passionate about, is emotional regulation, and in helping young people and the adults around them learn about how to foster better understanding, communication, and build more helpful coping strategies.

Using my skills and expertise as a therapist I have developed a range of treatment packages to support the needs of young people and their parents.

12+ young person assessment

If the young person is 12 or over, and would be able to be the main person I gather information from, and no report is needed, this may be appropriate.

I would be able to get an overview of their needs and goals, and feedback to them and the referrer in a method of their choosing for recommended next steps.

Comprehensive initial assessment

For any age roughly 7+, assessment will include consultations with the young person, family/carers and other professionals where appropriate.

It may include an observation in the home or education environment. The referrer will get a full initial assessment report with advice, recommendations and signposting.

Enhanced assessment for EHCP plans

Comprehensive initial assessment with additional focus on needs and provision to inform an Education Health and Care Needs Assessment ( EHCP).

This includes consultation with all relevant parties (young persons, family, carers, educators, and other professionals).

A comprehensive report tailored to meet the requirements of EHCP applications.

Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule (ADOS-2)

This assessment gives a detailed  profile of the child/young person’s communication abilities, particularly those that may be indicative of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).

The assessment can be used to contribute to a wider neurodevelopmental diagnostic assessment depending on the team conducting this wider assessment to help inform greater understanding and support of the child/young person’s needs.

Appropriate For: Young people where ASD is suspected. Most ages above baby and toddler stage (~31 months+).
